Lower Back Pain Relief
Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons to miss work and leisure activities that are important to us. It is a painful and frustrating experience to suffer from unresolved back pain. The back is a complex structure, made of muscles, bones, joints and ligaments. Although it withstands extreme stress, it can be injured accidently from a heavy impact, but even a simple action such as turning over in bed can twist the spine just enough to cause a back injury. Other causes of back pain can include poor posture, arthritis, obesity and stress.
Sometimes gentle stretching is effective way to provide relief for lower back pain. These are easy to accomplish by laying on your back, slowly bending your knee, and pulling your leg as close to your chest as possible using your hands. Hold this position for about 20 seconds, then relax. Repeat, alternating with both legs. If your back is inflamed, apply an ice pack to the area several times for 20-minute periods. Keep moving! Your body is designed to move and when you become sedentary the pain increases. Keep moving through gentle exercises such as walking. Be sure to use good posture. Your back supports you weight, so slumping puts additional strain on the lumbar region. Bend from the knees when picking up objects from the floor and avoid high heeled shoes.
